Trusts & Foundations

Trusts and Foundations play a significant role in helping BALTIC to enrich the lives of our visitors and community on a regional, national and international scale through their support and grant donations towards our groundbreaking exhibitions and dynamic learning programmes.

Some extraordinary developments have been made possible through the support of Trusts & Foundations. To give a flavour of some of the types of support received, examples are listed below:

Capital Project
Thanks to a generous grant from the Rootstein Hopkins Foundation, BALTIC was able to build Quay, a dedicated learning facility found right in the heart of the building, which enables BALTIC's Learning team to engage with over 300,000 visitors every year.

Organisational Development
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation recently supported the development of an organisational model, which has enabled richer and more effective visitor engagement with contemporary art, creating a seamless visitor experience, and a framework for the sector. This has embedded learning firmly within the visitor experience helping us to navigate learners through often complex and challenging contemporary art and enhancing visitor engagement and developing staff skills.

Community Participation
Regional support from the Sir James Knott Trust helped BALTIC to deliver its Summer Spectacular community programme in 2014 engaging and re-invigorating over 2,500 children, young people and their families.

Exhibition Support
Each year, BALTIC hosts over 14 exhibitions across our two venues. Many generous Charitable Trusts have helped to make this possible, including The Artis Grant Program who are contributing towards the current Omer Fast exhibition – the UK’s first comprehensive monographic exhibition by the Berlin based artist- bringing fantastic international contemporary art to Gateshead.

Schools Engagement
Support from BBC Children in Need has enabled BALTIC to create BALTIC Stars, a community schools project working with SEN schools across the North East. Celebrating young people’s creativity, this project offers children the opportunity to work with a professional artist to realise their ideas, recognise their talent and feel proud of their achievements and abilities.

Whatever the size of your organisation, you can make a positive impact to BALTIC.

We have some very exciting plans for the future, which we would like you to be part of. If you are a trustee, have contact with a trust, or perhaps are setting one up then we would be delighted to hear from you.
