BALTIC presents the work of British artist Hannah Collins (born London, 1956), known for her large unframed photographs and installations that create immersive spatial experiences.
When we look outwards in space we look backwards in time
At BALTIC, Lavender will present an ambitious installation of new and recent work for the Level 2 gallery. The exhibition will be the artist’s first solo presentation in a public institution in the UK. Working site-specifically, Lavender will make a series of sculptures comprising printed banners and found objects which will be suspended from the ceiling utilising the volumes of the space.
BALTIC presents a survey exhibition and major new commission by the Dutch artist and filmmaker Fiona Tan. The spectacular new commission DEPOT, made especially for our Level 4 gallery, re-imagines ‘Jonah The Giant Whale’, a preserved whale which toured across Europe exhibited inside a lorry. Tan will rebuild the 76-foot long vehicle; however the inside will now contain a cabinet of curiosities inviting the viewer to climb aboard.
In response to issues raised by BALTIC’s new exhibition Fiona Tan: DEPOT, this symposium will bring together eminent practitioners, artists and theoreticians whose work addresses that least visible, but most present, entity The Sea.
An exhibition of new and recent work by artist Peter J Evans will open in BALTIC’s project space at BALTIC 39, Newcastle upon Tyne on 11 September. Evans is interested in the nature and ideas of finite truth in an infinitely changeable universe and works with drawing, sculpture, installation, performance and sound in an attempt to make sense of the ungraspable realities we live within.
Artist Peter J. Evans and scientist, inventor and thinker Dr David Jones discuss authorship, the path of an idea and ways of thinking.
