This exhibition invites visitors to interact with the works directly by opening the ‘wind house’ to bring the exterior elements inside and physically infiltrating an inverted countryside scene in the work Trans-parent.

Puerto Rican-American artist Dzine (Carlos Rolon), has worked for years straddling the thin boundary between art and music. Influenced by Salsa, House, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Lounge, he has pushed the complex themes of sound and its influence on colour, lines, shapes and identity in his abstract painting. Rooted in both graffiti and modernist painting traditions, Dzine's paintings are vivid displays of artistic gesture and pattern which vibrate with colour and rhythm, unleashing a visual energy and lyricism.
Additional Information
s BALTIC Artist in Residence for two months, Dzine orchestrated a group of large scale works. A banner on the north side of BALTIC generated from a studio painting and two bespoke murals in BALTIC’s entrance area - to extend his visual energy into a public format.
Dzine also conducted several workshops with a group of young people from Kingsmeadow Comprehensive School and Lobley Hill Community Centre which is part of Gateshead Youth and Community Learning Service. They created original small scale paintings exhibited in the Café Bar entrance.
Dzine’s exhibition paves the way forSpank the Monkey, an exhibition showcasing contemporary artists who work outside of conventional gallery spaces.
