Mark Titchner

16 May 2007 - 20 January 2008

Mark Titchner’s installation is the first in a series of temporary projects by international artists which will transform the entire entrance corridor of BALTIC.

Titchner’s sculptures, installations, light boxes and posters combine catchphrases and clichés from pop, advertising and utopian statements with lines from songs, political manifestos, philosophy and sociological theory.

Informed by the work of seminal artists such as Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer, his works have a psychological intensity and exploit the tensions between surface and depth with a distinctive, electrifying graphic style.

Often associated with channelling the energy of youth and with ideas of the avant-garde, Titchner’s distinctive works appear to literally hum with energy.
