The Late Shows is the North East’s renowned culture crawl around Newcastle and Gateshead with many popular venues normally closed in the evening opening their doors after hours. Drop into BALTIC 39 on Saturday 18 May from 19.00-23.00 and check out the activity happening throughout the building. Level 4 Project Space:
DISCONNECTED (The left hand doesn’t know…)

Curated by Matt Calderwood and designed to be staged for one evening only within his exhibition Paper Over the Cracks at BALTIC 39, this event brings together a collection of film, video and sound works by artists including Calderwood, Declan Clarke, Sean Dower, Matt Crawley, Melanie Manchot, Tim Knowles and Paul McDevitt. The works explore collapsing systems, relationships, devices and machines, and broken communications.  Calderwood will be also be premiering a new video at 21.00, followed by a performance.

Level 3
Open Studio: SP Architects, Studio 22
There will be a small exhibition including drawings and working models set in the context of an architect's studio.

Open Studio: Paul Piercy, Studio 29
Drop into Paul’s studio for a glimpse of The Black Portraits, an ongoing story of human rights champions. Also on show are examples of experimental figurative painting from the Feeling Aloud series plus some drawings for a new project We Are But Players, which are portraits made in black.

Level 2:
Open Studio: David Bilbrough (Unit 44), Studio 7
David Bilbrough opens the doors to his BALTIC 39 photographic darkroom, displaying post-war architectural photography and photographic printmaking. 

Open Studio: Peter McAdam, Studio 17
Peter will be releasing an arts app called 'iCoda' next month which mashes up random images to sound. Join him as he demonstrates the new software and view print-outs created by the application.

Year 2 students from NorthumbriaUniversity’s Undergraduate Fine Art programme present work in the Level 1 space

Postgraduate Open Studio
MA Fine Art and MA Fine Art and Education students at NorthumbriaUniversity invite you to engage with their work in their Level 1 studio.

Ground Floor:
PhD Open Studios

Northumbria University PhD students Paul Goodfellow, Rachel Sharp and Marianne Wilde open their studios for the evening.

A performance by Graduate Fellow Sarah Riseborough takes place at 19.00 in Northumbria University's Ground Floor space
