Pupils and their families from Eslington Primary School took part in BALTIC’s latest Gateshead Stars project. Working with artist Paul Merrick, the group looked to their school logo and explored themes around its meaning and design. These ideas have inspired the artworks presented here.
Eslington Primary School’s logo features a tree with a rainbow. The group explored the concept of the trunk as representing the pupils and the branches being different aspects of their personalities and school life; their friends, teachers and family.
The group began their artistic journey by exploring different ways of drawing self portraits and trees. By working together, the group have visualised and transformed their original artworks from 2dimensional drawings into sculptures.
The artworks presented in Tree-ish are a celebration of the participants’ teamwork and the creative journey they have been on.
