BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present This is Your Strife. A creative arts project that aims to empower people with learning difficulties by exploring ways of producing art using digital technologies. The interactive multimedia exhibition developed by lead artist Mandeep Kallu, in collaboration with artists Pawel Jedrzejewski, Gary Cordingley, Nadia Iftkhar, Edward Blazey, Kate McCormick, Martin Robinson and NOVAK working closely with adults supported by Daybreak in partnership with BALTIC and GemArts.
This is your strife is a collection of works using music, dance, film and animation that focus on the participants perspectives, 40 adults supported by Daybreak worked closely with the artists over six months, using new techniques to produce their work with the aim to take away any limitations attached to disability and creativity. By using sensory technology, environmental interaction and synthesised music; including using eye tracking glasses, computer applications, and a specifically developed web camera which recognises hand gestures to create musical scores.
The final installation is presented in the form of a sculpture which combines the elements of all the separate art forms using 3D projection, the exhibition is presented on Level 1 at BALTIC from Friday 22 November – Sunday 24 November 2013.
