In this workshop, Deirdre Thompson will introduce traditional methods of bookbinding that can be used to make notebooks or for binding of "artist books". You will be working with basic hand tools and looking at resources and materials. Deirdre Thompson is a stationery bookbinder who makes books to commission.
These books have honest structures and are made from good and true materials. Goatskin, linen thread, beeswax, colour pigments, marbled paper and rag paper. Thompson makes books to record the celebration around a birth or a marriage, a book that honors a life or a death. Books for love and for hate. Books that look like the way you feel inside.
Books for artists, poets, designers, printers, scientists and dads. Books that are bold, brave, strong, dynamic, sturdy and lovely.
